Muller Martini Stitchers: A Q&A Guide
Q: What is the significance of the Muller Martini machines?
A: The Mullers are one of our newest additions to our book manufacturing capabilities, part of our £7 million investment in 2024.
Q: How fast are the Muller Martini machines compared to other stitchers?
A: These machines can produce up to 9,000 books per hour, depending on pagination, which is faster than the Horizons that produce 6,000 books per hour.
Q: What is our total book production capacity when all stitching machines are running?
A: If all our stitching machines are running simultaneously, we can produce anywhere up to 36,000 books at once, not including our perfect binding machine.
Q: How are pages fed into the Muller Martini machines?
A: The Mullers can be fed from reel, pile, or section-folded hoppers.
Q: Do the Mullers include integrated cutting and folding?
A: Yes, the machine has a Hunkeler and Stahl folder attached, allowing pages to be cut down to size and folded, ready for automatic collation and stitching.
Q: How are covers applied to the books?
A: Covers are fed separately. Once all inner pages are collated, they move down the saddle to the cover section, where a cover is applied and the book is stitched.
Q: What is the final step in the Muller Martini production process?
A: Once stitched, the book proceeds to the 3-knife trimmer where it's cut down to its final size, then stacked and dispatched for packing.
