What is a wiro-bound booklet?

This binding method utilises a wire or pre-formed pairs of wire loops which are inserted through holes that have been punched through the books cover and pages.

Can also be known as twin loop, double loop, double-o, duo-wire or wire binding.

What is this binding method used for?

It's ideal for:

- Calendars

- Cook books and music books

- Training manuals

- Writing pads

- Diaries

- Sales Documents

- Brochures

Can wiro-bound booklets come with astate/ perspex/ plastic clear covers?

No, this is not something we offer.

Do we offer dividers on wiro bound?

No this isn't something we offer.

How are they made?

They are firstly punched on the machine below (after print, lamination and guillotining):

They are then fitted with wire on one of three machines that works like the below:

What style of wire do we use?

We offer twin loop wire like the below - the colour of wire we use is silver.

What is the minimum page count?

Minimum is 16pp. Max depends on stock. Please check production capabilities for more information.

Can clients request a different colour wire?

We would only use silver wire and would not buy in a different colour wire for one client.

The reason for this is because every book would need to be changed for different wire which really isn't efficient and will reduce the volume the machine can run at.

If it an extremely large order, there may be a possibility that the wire could be provided by the client however this is rare and would need to be discussed with your TL before discussing with the client.

Pros:

-Durable

- Very easy to open

- Pages can be turned over completely

- Large page counts possible

- Materials can be combined easily

Cons

- Designs that run across the spine are broken up

- There is a gap between the opened pages

- Limited stack ability due to the spiral

- Smaller type area because of the punch space

Can clients add artwork for the inside of notebooks?

No we can only offer plain or ruled pages for notebooks, we can't offer these with print. This would then have to be a standard wiro bound booklet.

Rule paper the lines is roughly 8.5mm between each other.

My client wants some pages blank, how do I offer this?

This is fine to do, the pages that the client wants blank need to be included in the total page count. There is no lower cost for having some pages not filled in. They would just need to provide their artwork in the right order.

Artwork Requirments:

  • 3mm Bleed on all sides.

  • 9mm Safety area on Binding edge to allow for the wire binding. 3mm safety area on all other sides.

  • Supply booklets in single pages.
