What is a stapled booklet?

Also called 'saddle stitching', this is a very popular and easy binding method in which pages are folded, creased and stapled together.

This can also be known as 'wire stitching' or 'double wire stitching'.

What are they used for?

Magazines, advertising materials, brochures and catalogues.

How are they made?

Sections of sheets are collated to form the booklet inner page and cover.

The collated booklet is creased along the centre.

The wire is punched through the spine from the outside in two places and is bent flat on the inside.

After it has been bound, the document is trimmed on three sides.

What machines do we use to stitch them?

We use Horizon 5500 and Horizon Mark III Saddle stitchers. The method is the same on both versions of the machine.

We also have 2 Muller Martini's that we now use for our stapled booklets, these can produce around 7000+ an hour.

Pros:

- Fast and cost efficient

-Durable

- Opens flat meaning no missed content in the center of the product

- Eco-friendly thanks to low material consumption

Cons:

- Limited number of pages

- No superior apperance

- Not easily stackable

- Only works with page counts that can be divided by four

Can we embellish them?

Yes they can be foiled or have spot UV as long as they are matt or soft touch laminated.

The foil can be to the outside cover (front and back when closed) and must not go over the spine.

My client wants single-sided print on booklets. Does this need to be quoted for?

No, this would need to be accounted for in the client's artwork. We would not price this differently.

My client wants some pages blank, how do I offer this?

This is fine to do, the pages that the client wants blank need to be included in the total page count. There is no lower cost for having some pages not filled in. They would just need to provide their artwork in the right order.

Can we do any laminations?

Yes, our booklets can be offered with any of the laminations we offer. If it isn't on-site, it will need to be quoted.

What does lamination front only mean?

This means the outer cover, so imagine it laid flat (like the image below).

We can not offer lamination on the inside of this cover.
