Custom Drill Jobs - How the client needs to supply it

Created by Sharon Lazenby, Modified on Wed, 10 Apr, 2024 at 3:08 PM by Sidd Turaga

Some of our clients will require drill holes to be in a different place compared to our standard drill products. The following will explain how we need the artwork to be sent over and how to set up the proof.

Square trimmed jobs

How the client needs to provide it – The client will need to provide the artwork with 1mm circles in a fill colour that will stand out against their artwork to indicate where the holes need to be drilled, these only need to be on one side of their artwork. (See Square trim file for an example also screenshot below).

What studio needs to do – If the client has provided the artwork correctly, just pop in the notes that the colour dots is where it needs to be drilled. For example the magenta dots is where it needs to be drilled

Can studio fix any issues with the drill holes?

If the customer hasn’t embedded the drill holes on their artwork studio can pick this out and change the colour and the size of the circle to 1mm using PitStop Inspect, this should be checked and done in the email stage. (Make sure the anchor point is set in the middle)

If the drill holes are embedded and not set up correctly then we will need to go back to the customer and resupply.

CAD cut custom

How the client needs to provide it – For CAD cut custom jobs, the customer will need to provide two files, one file to be the customer's original artwork and another file which is the cutter & drill hole file.

The cutter & drill hole file needs to setup to show where the artwork will need to be cut and to have the drill holes be the exact size the customer is wanting it to be and to be setup as a stroke colour instead of a fill colour and with the stroke width being 1pt.  The customer will need to make sure the cutter & drill file isn't a flat image or embedded. (Please see the drill & cutter file attached as an example and screenshot below).

What studio needs to do – Studio will need to set the stroke colour for the cutter & drill file as the spot colour ‘CustomCutter’ which is set up at C - 100%, M - 0%, Y - 100%, K - 0%.

Can studio fix any issues with the cutter & drill file?

If the customer has forgotten to set up the cutter for the cutter & drill file, studio can setup the cutter if it is a standard square or rectangle cutter then needs to be the size of the product, they ordered using Illustrator or the PitStop Action ‘CustomCutter to Trim’ (A trim box needs to be defined for the action to work)

If the customer has set the drill holes as fill colour, if it isn’t embedded, we can change the fill colour to a stroke using PitStop Inspect or Illustrator.

What does CS need to tell the client and when?

CS will need to let the client know how to set the cutter & drill file up when the client asks for a quote and to let them know to provide two files, one being the artwork without the cutter and drill holes on and the other file is just the cutter & drill file.
