My client is having trouble getting the uploader to accept their artwork online, what should I do? (Pre-Proof)
This can look like a number of things:
- The proofing tool is getting stuck at a specific percentage (generally 16%)
- It won't accept my file
Speak to the client to check the below:
File Type: We support – PDF JPEG AI EPS PNG PSD TIFF
File Size: Under 200mb – Compression Guide: Flatten layers, rasterize images and reduce resolution to make a file smaller (https://smallpdf.com/compress-pdf)
File Name: Is this long and has any special characters?
I've managed to get a proof but it doesn't look right or is giving me warnings. What can I do?
The warnings that could be given and how to resolve these are:
Resolution- this would need the image quality changing. Anything lower than 300DPI gets flagged up, so sometimes it is best to ask the client to zoom in to around 300% and if they are happy with how it looks it will print as expected/shown at 300%.
Colour issues- This is when the file hasn't been set up in CMYK. The client would need to save the file out using the PDF Standard, PDF/X-1a:2001. This will save the file using the same setting as what Studio use.
Transparency issues- This is when the artwork is built up in layers and hasn't been flattened. Going through the online proofing system can cause lines on the proof. The above PDF standard will also sort this.
The reason why a proof may not look right and how to resolve these are:
Number of pages uploaded could be in correct,
Wrong size for the product ordered.
If you or the client is ever unsure please get them to send for a manual proof, or chat to the studio team for extra support.
