FSC Info & Process

The Forest Stewardship Council are a non-profit established in 1993 who promote responsible management of the world’s forests via timber certification.

The ‘check tree’ label can be found on millions of products and stands alone as the most trusted mark for responsible forestry.

Bluetree as a company, therefore R1 as a brand, are FSC certified. This means ALL our paper stocks are FSC certified so all our clients do have the option to have our FSC logo added to their print. The team will check that the correct logo has been used on the order.

Our FSC certificate is attached.

Our logos are added on in house by a member of the Studio Team

The presentation used in the FSC Training has been included on this article for you to view at any time if required.

Can I send the Certificate to a client?

We would not be able to send them the full version of the PDF to ensure that this is not edited in any way. We can screenshot the certificate and send the client this so they can see. Alternatively, they can search our License code on the FSC database and find out relevant information.

A client has asked for us to send our logo so their designer can add this on, can we do this?

Short answer is no. We are unable to send over our logo for clients to add on to their artwork. The FSC require us to maintain control over our logo so we hold responsibility for when/where this is used. We can send them the below screenshot to highlight how the logo will look and to advise the different colour options but this will not be the exact logo that is added to the artwork by our team. The logos are available in both Portrait and Landscape.

How long will it take for the logo to be added and a proof to be sent?

Normal turnaround for the proof to be sent is 4 hours. Given that the proof needs to be created manually due to us adding our logo on, the turnaround is increased to 5 hours. Please note, during peak this may be increased but this will be cascaded around via email/slack to keep you informed.

My client wants to logo added, what do I do?

An email will need to be sent to the FSC email address with the order reference number, the preferred colour/orientation of the logo and where the customer would like this to be placed. If you have received this in CS, please send this to Studio as normal as this means the artwork is in the folder ready for us to add the logo onto. Once the logo has been added, this will be checked internally and then sent into the proofing queue as normal where a proof will be created and emailed to the client. If there are any issues with the artwork meaning we can’t add a logo on to the artwork, we will let you know so the client can be informed that this is not possible.

Key Points to remember:

  • All proofs that require an FSC logo to be added, must be done MANUALLY.

  • If a client has added their logo for advertising purposes (eg, advertising wooden doors) we will not need to change the logo as this is not for the stock that is being used to print the file on.

  • The license code on the logo can be searched and traced back to us

Labelling Agreements

This is an agreement between two Certified bodies where they can print one another’s logo. We have this option available to clients. If they are FSC certified, we can print their logo but we must have a labelling agreement on file.

If a client wants to proceed with a labelling agreement you will need to email the FSC Team for the agreement to be sent to you.

Once you have this, you can forward this to your client for them to fill in and send back (please note any jobs on the system will be HELD until the document has been returned)

Once this has been sent back, you will need to send this through the FSC Team email address. We will then archive this and let Richard Crow know so he can forward directly to the FSC for their records.

When this has been archived, the order (and any future orders) will proceed as normal without any additional delays as the logo that is added onto the artwork from then on, is the clients responsibility.
